1974 Jeep Renegade
This was the first jeep I ever owned. My dads neighbor, Mr. Loll who was a shop teacher from Colorado sold it to me. I didn’t quite have the money to pay for it, but he said I could make payments. I gave him some money down but once I started driving it, I never had the money to pay him. Not because I didn’t have it, I was just very irresponsible, to busy buying beer, gas and repairing all the things I broke, driving it like an idiot. I was a real squirrel and Mr. Loll was way too nice to ever ask me for the rest of the money. One day, many years later I finally grew up and payed him back with interest. He couldn’t believe I finally paid him, said he had written it off, made me feel like I was finally getting my shit together. I didn’t have it very long, but I did have some good times hanging out in the white mountains fishing and enjoying the outdoors. One of my favorites was going to Rocky Point, Mexico with Randy Ellis and friends with Randy’s three-wheeler strapped to the top of it. What a party, hanging out at JJ’s, then running from the policia down the beach. Back then they didn’t have 4-wheel drive lol! We even backed up to tents in the middle of the night and roost them. We were so broke we would charge people to get them unstuck on the beach. We had a little saying “20 bucks gets yous unstucks”. I remember this one guy had a truck stuck, he hooked the strap to his bumper and was pissed when it ripped it off… but he got unstuck! After many many drinks we were jumping it and it buckled in the middle. On the way home the exhaust fell off, it was a real gem and I swore I would never own another jeep. So, the first jeep I ever built was done with a handmade frame, cage and was all Chevy.
